Rodney Bell and Guests is a new performance work developed in May 2024 at Auckland’s Concert Chamber, supported by Auckland Live and Creative New Zealand. The work celebrates the artistry and improvisational mastery of Rodney Bell through spontaneous encounters with fellow performers.
In each performance, ten artists sit anonymously in the audience, unaware of who else will take part or when they will be called to join Rodney in the “Dance Ring.” Guided by live music from Jol Mulholland, each interaction unfolds in real time as a shared act of creativity, generosity and vulnerability. Between performances, Rodney weaves reflections and stories from his own life, offering audiences a deeply human experience that honours the power of presence and connection.
