Movement of the Human’s Malia Johnston directed the opening ceremony of the FIFA Women’s World Cup at Eden Park in 2023. With an original score by Eden Mulholland created in collaboration with artists from Ngāti Whātua, the performance celebrated Aotearoa’s spirit and the global power of women’s football through movement, music and light.
Commissioned by People & Co and Augusto, the large-scale production brought together hundreds of performers in a seamless fusion of choreography, live sound and visual design. The creative team worked closely with cultural advisors and technical specialists to craft a moment that reflected mana, connection and pride, setting the stage for an unforgettable tournament.
